Sjöberg, Sollentuna

There have been settlements and dwellings in Sjöberg since ancient times, and Fornborgen in Sjöberg has been dated back to around 400-550 AD. During the Viking period in around 800 to 1100 AD, an important trade run passed along nearby Edsviken and Lake Norrviken, en route to towns on the shores of Lake Mälaren and on to Uppsala. During the 1930s, the area was a much-appreciated chalet district, where middle class families could spend their leisure time among the forests and meadows. There are several famous individuals hailing from Sollentuna Municipality, such as high jumper Kajsa Bergqvist, ice hockey player Mats Sundin and footballer Anders Limpar, as well musician and guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen and artists Ted Gärdestad and Maia Hirasawa, to name but a few. Sollentuna Centrum is a design-orientated shopping centre with restaurants, around 115 shops and 1,500 parking spaces.

Danderyd

The municipality of Danderyd is one of Sweden’s wealthiest, with residential districts such as Djursholm and Stocksund. Sweden’s most elevated status of education is to be found here. The municipality has many ancient monuments and there are also several grave fields from the Bronze Age in the district.

Curling and ice hockey have become well-established sports in Danderyd. The Swedish World Cup Gold Medal winning curling team of 1973 came from here, as well as a number of Swedish Championship and Stanley Cup winning ice hockey players. In 2005, Europe’s largest curling hall was built in Danderyd.

In Danderyd, the main site of local commerce is known as Mörby Centrum. At the present time, there are around 65 shops and 800 parking spaces. The shopping centre will soon change its name to Danderyds Centrum and at the time of writing, 18,000 square meters are being built on to create a modern boutique mall with an extensive selection of shops, restaurants and office spaces.
